Time is the clock of our lives. Our clock ticks as we age and stops when we die. The poems herein examine the use of our days and the response to death. Some describe the universality of the human reaction through the ages. Others bring out my thoughts as a physician to suffering. Some will bring comforting tears to dampen the drought of the soul in sorrow.
Pepette, Truffles and a Terrorist

Pepette, a pig on a southern French farm, is a champion truffle hunter. Pigs can smell them in the ground and dig them up. Truffles are a mushroom which French chefs regard highly in creating wonderful dishes and pay well for. Since she is superior in smelling things, she is hired by the Paris international airport to smell suitcases and people. She is good at her job, but misses her farm and her mistress, 10 year old Estelle.
A Spy Named Guy

Guy, a spy for the FBI who usually does his spying riding on the back of a fly, is freed from an Easter egg by Bernie, a ten-year old boy. Before heading back to Washington to ‘report in’, he helps Bernie handle a bully.
A Road Into Retirement

After a personal and professional life that led him across three continents - from Germany to Albert Schweitzer's hospital in Africa, to medical training at the Mayo Clinic in the USA, Hans was on the verge of retirement from a satisfying but demanding career in radiology.
